Who Wants to be a Millionaire Returns Bigger and Better

‘Who wants to be a Millionaire’, the highly acclaimed TV game show is making a comeback after an indefinite break which turned out to last just four-years.

Although no formal date has been set, the organizers have revealed that the grand prize is N20 million, which would be awarded weekly throughout the year.

The game show, which was modeled on the original British version and was dubbed "WWTBAM" in the literature world, aired for nearly 13 years and was known casually as "Millionaire."

It lasted from October 8, 2004, to June 25, 2017, when its major sponsor, MTN, walked out, forcing it to take an indefinite hiatus.

The show thrilled TV audiences for 13 memorable years, boasting formidable participants with a profound wealth of knowledge.

On September 11, 2009, Aroma Ufodike of Nnewi, Anambra State, went on the show and won the prize of N10 million.

Hakeem Condotti, CEO of BLK HUT media, the show's licensee and production studio, remarked that the organizers' goal is to create innovative, intellectual, and professional content that demonstrates range and capacity.

Mr Condotti further stated that the production firm is happy to deliver “international quality content” to Nigerians for their watching pleasure, and that the show's comeback is part of the “COVID-19 respite that we all need as a country.”

How the Game works:

The Millionaire game show, which has a complicated set of regulations, hosts a group of competitors in each week in a preliminary round dubbed "Fastest Finger First," in which the host asks each contestant a question and four answers, which must then be arranged in a specific order.

The participant who successfully answers the most questions in the shortest amount of time advances to the main game.

When a contender starts the main game, the host asks them increasingly difficult general knowledge questions, each with four alternative answers to which the contestant must choose the correct one.

As the competitor progresses in the game, they will earn more money and so increase their prize pool.

During the game, the player has two "safety nets" and a set of lifelines that they can utilize just once to aid them with a question.

These lifelines are: ’50/50′, where two random wrong options are eliminated, leaving the right option and the other remaining wrong option; ‘Phone a Friend’, in which the contestant is given 30 seconds to call one of their friends, read the question and four possible options to the friend, who then has the remaining time to offer input.

There is ‘Ask the Audience’, where the audience use touchpads to designate what they believe the correct option to be and the percentage of the audience choosing each specific option is displayed to the contestant who then makes his choice.

How to Apply and get selected:

Generally, there are 2 ways to apply.

1.    By Interactive Voice Response (IVR)

2.    By SMS

1.    By Interactive Voice Response (IVR)

·       Dial 132

·       A question is read out with 4 options.

·       Select a number that suits your chosen response i.e. 1, 2, 3 or 4

·       If the answer is wrong, you will hear- “Sorry, you are wrong this time-but you can try again. Remember, you can try as many times as you want. Thank you for calling and good luck.”

·       If the answer is correct, you will hear- “Yes! You made it! Congratulations! Please say your name and your telephone number after the beep. Press 1 when you are done.”

Note: A charge of 200 naira is taken for each phone call.

2.    By SMS

·     If the answer is correct, the individual gets this message: “Correct, you have entered our list of possible contestants & will be called if short listed. The more you play, the better your chances of being selected. Good luck”.

Getting Selected:

The names of all participants who properly answer the question will be entered into a database.

Our automatic random selection procedure shortlists 100 of these contestants each week.

You will be called and requested to answer another qualifying question if you are chosen.

This is not a multiple-choice question; instead, you must choose the closest response to the question.

The computer will rank all of the contestants' answers, and the nine contestants with the closest answers to the correct answer will be invited to play the game.

“You must leave a land line, cell phone, or fixed wireless number where you can be reached at any time of day or night, as well as your location.”

Disclaimer: The above-mentioned methods of applying and getting selected are all based on past selection procedure. There is no official news yet stating if there will be any changes to this process.
