What is the Enhanced E-Passport?
The Enhanced E-Passport is a part of the Nigerian Federal Government's new initiatives.
It is the result of a thorough examination of the existing e-passport booklet, which has been in use for more than ten years but only has a five-year validity.
What are the New Features and Advantages of the Enhanced E-Passport?

- The booklet has a ten-year validity period, which means you won't have to go to the passport office as often.
- Automation of the issuing procedure in order to increase transparency and eliminate middlemen.
- Payments are only done Online.
- Providing candidates with a friendly processing environment;
- Provision of a compliant and effective address mechanism.
- Introduction of an electronic document management system that will allow for:
- Application tracking,
- Communication with applicants about the progress of their applications, as well as collection
- Removal of all forms of human involvement.
- Improvement on the document storing system.
- Improvement on the ability to make quick decisions.
- Rendering of the process flow as simple as possible.
Enhanced E-Passport Categories:
The new Nigerian enhanced e-passport comes in just 3 categories:
32 page 5-year validity (Adults and Minors)
64 page 5-year validity (Adults and Minors)
64 page 10-year validity (Adults (18+) only)
N/B: Any of the three categories stated above are available to an adult. Young children under the age of 18 years old, on the other hand, have just the options of groups 1 and 2 above.
Persons under the age of 18 are not permitted to receive a 10-year validity passport, according to ICAO criteria, due to a projected change in their physical appearance.
Requirements:
In terms of application types, the Enhanced E-Passport meets the same requirements as traditional passports. But considering that
the Enhanced E-Passport has been launched and integrated with the National Identity Number (NIN), it means that there is only one additional requirement which is the NIN. However, the data on the old passport will be the same on the Enhanced E-Passport.
The Nigerian enhanced e-passport application proceedure:
Step 1:
Get you requirements ready
Step 2:
Apply online at https://portal.immigration.gov.ng by clicking on the type of passport application you want e.g. Fresh, Renewal, Lost, Damage, or Correction of data.
Step 3:
complete the online application form, select passport office in the state you wish to obtain the passport, proceed to make payment online and obtain reference and application ID numbers.
Steps 4:
Proceed to the Passport Office selected during the online application with relevant requirements including evidence of payment made.
The Enhanced e-passport official fee list:
1. 32 Page 5-year Standard Passport N25,000.00
2. 64 Page 5-year Standard Passport N35,000.00
3. 64 Page 10-year Standard Passport for adults only (18 years and above) N70,000.00
4. 32 Page 5-year Official Passport N15,000.00
